Anne is a near-future short film about a young woman who installs a powerful AI home assistant designed to anticipate her every need.
Anne
Anne is a near-future sci-fi short that explores the consequences of outsourcing our thoughts, emotions, and decisions to AI.
Maya installs a cutting-edge AI home assistant which, due to a malfunction, highlights the dangers and imperfections of this new technology, and asks the question: if something can think for you, why wouldn't you let it?
Why Anne?
Anne first began a few months ago when I envisioned a single scene: a person's house being broken into, but instead of doing the logical thing (running, hiding, or calling the police), they stand helpless, asking AI to tell them what to do next.
It came from situations we’re seeing more and more each day, particularly among younger people - consulting AI for everything. I know people who ask ChatGPT how to reply to messages, for medical advice, for personal guidance, and I knew I wanted to reference this directly in a short film.
At its heart, Anne serves as a warning against doing exactly that - emphasising the fact that AI isn’t human, and that any thought computed by such software is inferior to one that comes from a person. Over the course of the film, we see the dangers of placing complete faith in an intelligence system like Anne.
Izzy Sinclair
I’m Izzy and I played Maya Jones! I initially agreed to do this project as I think it looked like a great project to be involved in, I got to work with my friends and I think it’s good to get younger people working on things like this.
I think people should watch this short film not only because of the amount of effort we put in but because of the message; we are far too reliant on AI and most people don’t realise how much it impacts us on the daily. I really enjoyed being a part of this process and I can’t wait to work with North Studios again!
